What undersized gutters do to a Southeast Texas house
Gulf rain does not arrive the way an inland shower does. It comes in fast and heavy, and a gutter run that is too small, hung too flat, or hanging off pulled fasteners cannot move that volume before it backs up over the shingle edge. Once water is going over the top instead of down the downspout, it is working its way behind the fascia board, not away from the house.
Fascia and soffit rot from the inside of the run outward, so a homeowner in Beaumont or Nederland often does not see it until the wood is already soft. By then the gutter was never really the problem, it was the warning that something behind it had already started.
Sagging hangers and separated seams are the visible half of the same failure. A seam that has pulled apart at a corner, or a run that dips instead of running a straight pitch to the downspout, is telling you the same thing a stained fascia board is: the water is not going where it is supposed to.

What to watch for between visits
Overflow at one corner during heavy rain, a streak of staining running down the fascia, or plants starting to grow out of the run are all signs worth a call before the next storm rather than after it. None of them are dramatic on their own, which is exactly why they get ignored until the fascia or soffit behind them needs replacing too.
