We do not lay a new roof over an old one. Every installation starts with a full tear-off down to the decking, and any board that has gone soft or rotted gets replaced before anything else goes back down. Skipping that step is how a roof that looks fine from the driveway fails from underneath five years later.
From there it is underlayment, then valley and step flashing worked in around every penetration, then the field itself, whether that field is asphalt shingle, standing-seam metal or a flat membrane roof. Most residential jobs finish inside a day or two depending on size, and the crew cleans the site down at the end of each day rather than leaving a yard full of tear-off debris overnight.
Roof replacement is the same process at a larger scale, and it is where most of our installation calls in Beaumont and Nederland end up once an inspector has ruled out a repair.
